Police investigate dumping of suspected chemical waste in Sungai Buloh drain

POLICE are investigating the dumping of eight barrels of suspected chemical waste into a drain at Kampung Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh, last week, said  Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

"Yes, we have opened investigations and are taking the necessary steps to find those responsible. Samples of the chemicals have been sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis," he told the New Straits Times today.

An investigation paper has been opened under Section 430 of the Penal Code for knowingly causing damage to public water supplies or air quality.

Selangor Environment Department director Nor Aziah Jaafar said that the eight barrels have been removed from the site and taken to a safe disposal location in Bukit Tagar.

"Our investigations suggest that the chemical waste is an ammonia solution," she was quoted as saying by the English-language daily. - September 27, 2024
