PASIR MAS, Aug 14 — Police have detained a 54 year old teacher accused of assaulting a pupil and the boy’s mother with a cane in two separate incidents this week.

According to Harian Metro, the arrest followed a report lodged by the mother, who alleged her son — a pupil at a primary school in Pasir Mas — was struck by the teacher. Investigators later found the boy had earlier been hit on the head with a cane at school on August 11.

The mother raised the matter with the school, prompting the headmaster to arrange a meeting the next day. During the discussion, held in the headmaster’s office, the teacher allegedly shouted and struck the woman on her right thigh with the cane. The incident was witnessed by the headmaster, who was said to be shocked by the teacher’s actions. The woman fled in fear.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon, an offence that carries up to 10 years’ jail, or fine, or whipping, or any two of those punishments upon conviction.

The teacher has been remanded for three days until Saturday.
