Police investigate viral roadside riot involving seven after multi-car crash in Jasin

POLICE have launched an investigation into a violent incident involving seven individuals who were seen rioting with wooden sticks and cables by the roadside along the Jasin-Bemban route, following a three-vehicle collision.

The altercation, which has gone viral on social media, was captured in a 39-second video clip that showed several men engaged in a chase and fight.

According to sources, two suspects, aged 20 and 21, were arrested by officers from the Jasin District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division at the scene around 9.30am yesterday, shortly after the incident unfolded.

“Initial findings indicate that the incident occurred at approximately 9am, during the morning rush hour. It followed a road accident involving a Volkswagen Passat, a Mitsubishi Triton, and a Toyota Vios,” a source said.

“Following the brawl, five of the assailants fled the scene in a silver Proton Exora. The vehicle’s registration number has not yet been identified.”

Police have since impounded the Mitsubishi Triton, which was abandoned at the location, and also seized the damaged Volkswagen Passat for further investigation. Urine tests conducted on the two detained suspects returned negative for drug use.

Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar (pic), confirmed the incident when contacted and stated that investigations are ongoing under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which pertains to rioting with weapons.

Efforts are underway to identify and locate the remaining five individuals involved. - August 16, 2025
