POLICE have not ruled out the possibility of calling in the contractor believed to be involved in the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which occurred yesterday.
Subang Jaya District Police Chief,Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the contractor had the necessary permits to carry out work at the scene of the fire.
“We are still investigating, especially to identify these contractors. We need to refer to the local municipal council to see if permits were issued, including by PETRONAS.
“We need to confirm if permits were granted for the contractor to be within the pipeline’s buffer zone,” Wan Azlan explained during a press conference at the Incident Control Centre (PKTK) earlier today.
“We are identifying them, and once we do, we will call them in for questioning. Right now, the investigation is still ongoing, and we cannot confirm yet whether the proper permits were issued,” he added.
Wan Azlan also revealed that statements from several witnesses, including victims currently receiving treatment in hospitals, have already been recorded.
Twenty agencies are involved in the investigation today, including the police, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). These agencies are assessing the safety of the affected area and evaluating the condition of the electrical wiring that was impacted by the fire.
“One fire engine with six personnel is also on standby in case of any small flare-ups in the affected houses to ensure that no new fires occur,” he said.
Additionally, discussions are underway with relevant agencies to coordinate the safe return of residents to their homes so they can retrieve essential documents and belongings.
Meanwhile, Wan Azlan said the Police have received 59 reports in connection with the explosion of a Petronas gas pipeline in Putra Heights, with the reports primarily concerned properties, including vehicles, that were affected by the incident.
"Victims who were injured have also filed police reports," he said during the press briefing .
Wan Azlan assured that the police would continue to monitor the affected area to ensure the safety of residents' belongings. "We will be at the scene for the next 24 hours to monitor the situation and ensure that no thefts occur from the victims' properties. As of now, there have been no reports of theft," he added.
He said, on Tuesday morning, emergency services rushed to the scene of the explosion after receiving a distress call at 8:10am. Fire and Rescue teams from several stations, including Subang Jaya, Puchong, Shah Alam, Jelutong, Cyberjaya, Rawang, Klang South, Klang North, Damansara, KLIA, and Serdang, were all involved in the response effort. - April 2, 2025
