THE Makati City Police Station arrested two men on Wednesday for violating Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling.
In a statement released to the media only on Friday, the police station said the two men were arrested along Barangay Sta. Rita Street in Guadalupe Nuevo at 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
The men were identified as alias “John” and alias “Edwardson.” However, authorities said two of their companions are still at large.
Police said Edwardson hid a small sachet containing shabu.
“During the arrest, officers conducted a mandatory procedural body search and seized a sling bag from suspect Edwardson. The bag contained a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet with approximately 0.2 grams of a substance suspected to be ‘shabu,’ valued at an estimated P1,360,” the station said.
“Additionally, officers seized gambling paraphernalia, including bet money amounting to P600 in different denominations, two lighters, a transparent glass tube, and an improvised pen gun. From suspect John, officers recovered P450 in various denominations and three one-peso coins used as flippers. Overall, the total amount of recovered gambling paraphernalia reached P1,053,” they added.
