THE Makati City Police arrested on Thursday a Chinese citizen and two Filipinos who attempted to steal the vehicle of the people with whom they were conducting a supposed transaction involving the sale of cellular phones.
Arrested were a certain Lulu, 27, a Chinese citizen residing in Pasay City; alias James, 19, and alias Leif, 24, both residing in Barangay New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
Investigation disclosed that at 7:55 on Thursday night, the victims met the suspects along Amorsolo Street for a scheduled P300,000 transaction involving the purchase of cellular phones.
During the transaction, the suspects allegedly forcibly took the steering wheel from one of the victims inside their vehicle and then sped away. The other victim pursued the vehicle and shouted for help, alerting police personnel manning a nearby post along Fernando Street, corner Chino Roces Avenue.
At this juncture, police officers proceeded to the area, intercepted a black Ford Territory and a silver Toyota Fortuner, and arrested the three suspects before they could leave the vicinity.
During the arrest, police recovered a Taurus 9mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds of ammunition, a.38 caliber revolver loaded with three live rounds, assorted license plates bearing different plate numbers, cellular phones, and other personal belongings from the suspects
Police also seized two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing approximately 1.8 grams of suspected shabu with a standard drug price of P12,240.00, along with two glass tubes with suspected drug residue.
The suspects underwent mandatory medical examination before they were brought to the Makati City Police Station for documentation and proper disposition
Charges of attempted robbery, violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), violation of RA 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), grave coercion, and usurpation of authority or official functions will be filed against the suspects.
Acting Southern Police District Director BGen. Glenn Oliver Cinco commended the immediate action by the Makati police personnel, noting that their presence in the area and prompt response led to the interception and arrest of the suspects.
“The quick response of our personnel shows why police visibility and readiness on the ground are important. Our officers will continue to respond immediately when the public needs assistance and take appropriate action against those who threaten the safety of our communities,” Cinco said.
