TAWAU: A local, who was reported to have gone on a rampage using a machete against his family members at a house in Taman Sri Titingan on Tuesday, has been arrested.

Deputy Chief of Tawau District Police, Supt Champin Piuh, in his press statement on Thursday, stated that the 27-year-old suspect was armed with a 22-inch long machete.

“According to the police report by the victim, who is the suspect’s younger brother, the incident where the suspect lost control and attacked his family happened around 6:30pm.

“The suspect’s aggressive actions, including making threats while armed with a sharp weapon, caused fear among his family members, leading them to worry for their safety,” he said.

Champin said after receiving the report, the police quickly arrested the suspect around 8:18pm that same day and also confiscated a sheathed machete.

He said the suspect and the seized items, suspected to have been used by the suspect in the rampage, were brought to the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD Tawau) for further investigation.

“Checks on the suspect revealed that he has no prior criminal record, and no injuries or losses have been reported,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal threats.
