PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man suspected of cheating victims out of RM960,020 by falsely claiming to be an aide-de-camp to the Raja Muda of Selangor, allegedly offering houses and vehicles in fraudulent deals.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the suspect, who is in his 40s, was apprehended at a house in Johor Bahru at about 5pm yesterday.
According to Shazeli, the man had been evading arrest since Oct 13 and had no affiliation with the Selangor royal institution or the staff of the Selangor palace.
Two of his acquaintances, who are suspected of helping him evade the authorities, were also arrested.
Shazeli said investigations had linked the suspect to alleged fraud cases across six states and federal territories, namely Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Perlis.
He said the suspect allegedly employed the same method to deceive victims from various backgrounds.
Selangor police are coordinating with Bukit Aman and police contingents in other states to identify and apprehend additional suspects believed to be involved in the cases. Some of them are still at large, he added.
Earlier, the Selangor palace expressed concern over allegations that an individual had impersonated the Raja Muda’s personal bodyguard to deceive members of the public for financial gain.
The palace also advised the public to verify claims of royal connections directly with its administration before proceeding with any transactions involving individuals who claim to represent or have links to the royal household.
