Police nab unemployed man, seize drugs worth over RM116,000

DUNGUN - Police arrested a man and seized various types of drugs worth over RM116,000 in a raid on a house in Kampung Kertas Pulas, Kuala Abang here on Tuesday (July 28).

Dungun police chief Supt Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the 25-year-old unemployed man was arrested in the 5am raid carried out by the Dungun Police Headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) following intelligence gathering and public information.

He said an inspection of the rented premises, used as a drug storage facility, led to the discovery of 712.70 grammes of suspected yaba pills, 402.50 grammes of syabu and 200.20 grammes of heroin.

"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect acted as the caretaker of the premises for the syndicate, which is believed to have been active since January, and the drug supply is believed to have been obtained from a network of local syndicates.

"The rented house has been used as a storage facility for about three months before the drugs were distributed to the market in the district,” he told a media conference at the Dungun police headquarters here today.

Nik Ab Halim said the suspected also tested negative for drugs, and the seized drugs were estimated to be enough to supply 6,587 addicts.

He said the suspect, who has two drug-related records, was remanded for seven days starting yesterday to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He added that police also seized a Honda RS-X motorcycle worth about RM10,000 under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

"The total value of the drug seizure and confiscated property is RM126,546.30,” he said, adding that it was the largest drug seizure recorded in the district this year. - BERNAMA
