Police officer suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’ after she was hit by vehicle on duty

  • Pc Jess Turnbull, a 19-year-old Northumbria Police officer, was fatally struck by a car while closing a road following an earlier collision.
  • The incident occurred on the A189 near Cramlington on Monday, 8 June, when another motorist collided with her parked police vehicle, hitting Pc Turnbull.
  • She sustained "catastrophic injuries" and died two days later, on Wednesday, 10 June, at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
  • Pc Turnbull had only joined the police force nine months prior to her death, in September, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.
  • A 73-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been bailed, with police investigations ongoing.
