Police open probe into case of Penang assemblyman who allegedly beat wife

PENANG police confirmed receiving a report alleging that a State Legislative Assemblyman (ADUN) in the state assaulted his 36-year-old wife last Saturday.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng stated that the police are currently finalising their investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

Police have so far recorded statements from four individuals, including the couple involved and their family members.

“We are currently in the process of completing the investigation.

“Regarding the injuries sustained by the victim, we will seek verification from medical experts,” he said today.

Lim refuted allegations that the police had failed to conduct an investigation into the case.

“The claim that no investigation has been carried out is untrue, as we are investigating in accordance with the law.

“This case involves a family matter and should not be blown out of proportion.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice for all parties involved,” he stated. – November 2, 2026
