GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have confirmed receiving a report alleging that a state assemblyman assaulted his 36-year-old wife last Saturday.
Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said investigations were ongoing, with police in the final stages of preparing the investigation papers under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
He said statements had been recorded from four individuals, including the couple and their family members.
“We are currently in the process of completing the investigation.
“Regarding the injuries sustained by the victim, we will seek verification from medical experts,” he said today.
Lim also dismissed allegations that police had failed to investigate the case.
“The claim that no investigation has been carried out is untrue, as we are investigating in accordance with the law.
“This case involves a family matter and should not be blown out of proportion.
“We will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice for all parties involved,” he said.
