KUALA LUMPUR - The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have opened an investigation paper into Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's claim that he was once offered cooperation by the United States (US) to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2014.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for offences related to statements conducive to public mischief.
He said investigations are also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or network services.
"To date, PDRM has received 12 police reports regarding the issue and statements from 12 witnesses have been recorded. Abdul Hadi's statement will also be taken in the near future to complete the investigation," he said in a statement on Monday.
Kumar advised the public not to make any speculation that could interfere with the ongoing investigation process, urging them to use social media platforms responsibly and to avoid making any statements that could threaten public order and safety.
Abdul Hadi previously claimed that several Pas leaders were once invited to a meeting with the US Embassy when then-US President Barack Obama visited Malaysia in 2014, with the foreign side allegedly offering assistance to topple the government at the time.
Yesterday, the US Embassy here stated on its Facebook page that the country had never attempted to determine Malaysia's political leadership and described any statements to the contrary as false. - BERNAMA
