Police investigate viral video over headscarves with incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns sold at a Subang Jaya supermarket

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a video clip that has gone viral depicting the sale of headscarves, allegedly featuring incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns, at a supermarket in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said they received a report regarding the matter at about 4.49 pm yesterday.

“Initial investigations found that only some of the headscarves had incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns, which the supermaket received from a supplier.

“The supermarket had taken immediate action by removing and separating the headscarves identified as having incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns from the sales area to prevent them from being sold,” he said in a statement today.

Wan Azlan said that following the circulation of the video, police were conducting investigations under. Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 regarding the use of the Jalur Gemilang that did not comply with the prescribed specifications.

He said investigations were also being carried out under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

“The public is advised not to speculate about the matter that has gone viral on social media and to let the police conduct their investigation,” he said, while urging witnesses to channel information to the Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-7862 7100.
