POLICE are investigating a woman accused of assaulting two young children during an incident at a shopping mall in the city yesterday.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Azwan Amin Nordin said the children’s 36-year-old father lodged a police report at 7.39 pm.
He said the incident took place at about 3 pm when the man was walking with his two children, aged seven and two.
An unidentified woman allegedly pushed his two-year-old son from behind, causing him to fall, before striking the back of his seven-year-old daughter’s head.
The incident has since drawn widespread attention after a 35-second video showing a confrontation between the children’s father and a woman went viral on Threads and Facebook.
The footage shows a heated exchange involving pushing and slapping, although it does not establish what triggered the altercation.
A woman identified as Sakina Zuhairi also took to social media, claiming her friend, who was wearing a maroon headscarf, was among those assaulted.
Sakina said they were walking towards Don Kai at Ombak KLCC when a woman dressed in yellow allegedly approached and slapped her friend.
She further claimed the woman had earlier pushed a young boy who was standing near his father.
When the father confronted her, the woman allegedly pushed the child’s head, causing him to fall from his stroller.
According to Sakina, the confrontation then escalated, with the woman allegedly pushing and kicking the father before slapping her friend.
The claims have added to public concern over the incident, particularly as two young children were allegedly involved.
However, the additional allegations have yet to be confirmed by police.
Although social media posts have identified the location as Ombak KLCC, Ahmad Azwan did not specify the shopping centre in his statement.
He said police were treating the matter seriously and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He also urged the public against speculation, unverified accusations and the circulation of misleading information that could hamper investigations.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist police is urged to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 03-2600 2222 or any nearby police station. - November 2, 2026
