Police record 14 statements over armed robbery at home of key witness in Guan Eng trial

POLICE have recorded statements from 14 individuals in connection with the armed break-in at the Bukit Gasing home of a key witness in the ongoing corruption trial involving former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.

Petaling Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, said investigations are still underway and efforts to trace the suspects involved are ongoing.

“To date, we have recorded 14 statements and are working to locate several others who may assist with the investigation,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

The robbery, which occurred earlier this week, saw assailants armed with machetes making off with valuables estimated at RM300,000. The victim sustained injuries to the mouth and wrist, while two security guards were tied up by the attackers, who warned: “Don’t be a hero, stay quiet at home.”

Police confirmed on Wednesday that the robbery is not believed to be linked to the victim’s role as a witness in the corruption proceedings against Guan Eng.

Lim Guan Eng, who is also the DAP national chairman, is currently facing several charges at the Sessions Court related to the controversial Penang undersea tunnel project. - August 9, 2025
