Selangor police seize 600 kg of drugs worth RM37.5 million and arrest 12 individuals across multiple raids including KLIA and Ampang.

SHAH ALAM: Police have foiled six drug trafficking attempts and seized about 600 kilogrammes (kg) of various types of drugs worth RM37.5 million in separate raids in Selangor. 

State police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said police had arrested 12 individuals, comprising three locals and nine foreign nationals, aged between 22 and 54.

He said on Aug 10 and 15, police foiled four attempts to traffic drugs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, involving 96.151 kg of cannabis flowers and 7.725 kg of cocaine.

“The attempts were foiled following inspections carried out by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) auxiliary police and the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) on six bags believed to belong to the suspects.

“A 22-year-old foreign woman was arrested on Aug 10, while two men and a woman, all foreign nationals aged 22, 23 and 39 respectively, were arrested on Aug 15,” he told a press conference here today.

Shazeli said on Aug 17, police arrested a 33-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman after they were believed to be involved in drug trafficking at a premises in Taman Melawati, Ampang.

He said the raid uncovered 243 plastic packets containing 252.7 kg of methamphetamine and 243 wax paper packets containing 88 kg of heroin base, with a total estimated value of RM19.7 million.

“In this case, police also seized a sedan and RM704 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking activities,” he said.

He said all the suspects had been remanded to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, Shazeli said police also arrested four foreign men and a foreign woman, aged between 22 and 54, at a premises in Ampang on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.

He said the operation uncovered 150 Chinese tea packets containing powder and compressed lumps of methamphetamine weighing 155 kg and worth RM7.8 million.

“For this case, three suspects were charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on Aug 14, while two others were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having valid documents.

“Another suspect was released as there was insufficient evidence to establish the suspect’s involvement in the syndicate,” he added.
