Last night, a police raid in Alor Gajah led to the arrest of six individuals, among them five police officers, involved in the processing of ketum water. The operation, conducted by a team from Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) around 11:30 PM, resulted in the apprehension of suspects aged 31 to 55, including two senior police officers.
According to Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah, the raid uncovered 5.2 liters of ketum water, carefully packaged in bottles and covered with plastic wrap. Additionally, the law enforcement team seized a pair of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) operational uniforms and a bowl from the location. All the police officers apprehended were affiliated with the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK).
Emphasizing transparency in the investigation, Zainol Samah stated that the police would not compromise on any breach of discipline by officers that could tarnish the reputation of the PDRM. He affirmed the commitment to ongoing operations aimed at eliminating negative elements within the police force, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken against those involved in activities undermining the credibility and trust of the community in the PDRM.
In a released statement, Zainol Samah asserted, "This kind of operation will continue to be carried out by the PDRM in cleaning up any negative elements from spreading so that appropriate action can be taken against police officers involved in activities which can affect the credibility and confidence of the community in the PDRM."
The next step involves submitting a remand application for the six suspects, with the case falling under the purview of Section 30(2) of the Poisons Act 1952. The potential punishment for the offenses is outlined in Section 30(5) of the same law. This decisive action reflects the PDRM's commitment to upholding the law and maintaining public trust, assuring the community that misconduct within the force will not be tolerated.
