Kota Kinabalu: SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE) has been making preparations well ahead of next month’s 17th State Election. Its Chairman Saadiah Aziz said preparations began several months ago to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the nomination process on Nov 15, early voting (Nov 25) and polling day (Nov 29).
“We have mobile generator sets (gen sets) ready for every area to make sure electricity is available during those times. We are focusing on the 25 nomination and polling centres,” said Saadiah.
SE Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said they also worked with local authorities (PBT) to inspect the wiring inside each hall.
“We have also prepared emergency lighting as a backup in case of a blackout,” he said, adding that during the three crucial days, some 800 staff will be on duty.
This was made possible as the Election Commission (EC) has allowed SE staff to cast their votes early.
“Previously, our staff had to vote on polling day, but now, with early voting, they can fully focus on their duties during the election period,” he said.
He expressed confidence that based on their experience from multiple general and state elections held roughly every two years, they are much better prepared this time.
“We have sufficient gen-sets to ensure a stable power supply,” he added.
