Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has postponed its 27th convocation ceremony, initially scheduled for Nov 29, following the Election Commission’s announcement of the 17th Sabah State Election on the same date.
In a statement, the UMS Corporate Communication Centre said the decision was made to allow university staff, graduates and the public to fulfil their civic duties as voters.
“To respect and provide space for all members of the university community to carry out their responsibilities as voters, UMS is currently reviewing and coordinating a new suitable date for the convocation,” it said.
Further details, including the revised date and programme schedule, will be announced soon via its official website and social media platforms.
UMS also expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of all parties involved and reiterated its commitment to holding the convocation in a meaningful, smooth and celebratory manner for graduates and their families.
The Election Commission has set Nov 15 for nominations and Nov 25 for early voting in the upcoming state election.
