If surprise had a physical address in Bonifacio Global City, it would now be on Level 2 of SM Aura. Pop Mart has officially opened its second permanent store in Metro Manila, adding another playful, design-driven stop to the city’s retail scene.

Fresh from the launch of its first official store at SM Megamall late last year, the global designer toy brand marked its SM Aura opening on January 16, unveiling a 164-square-meter space that feels less like a conventional store and more like an invitation to linger, browse and rediscover the simple thrill of opening a blind box.

The SM Aura branch also marks Pop Mart’s first permanent location in Taguig City, following a year of strong local momentum built through pop-up stores across Metro Manila. That steady build-up was clearly felt on opening day, as collectors, casual shoppers and first-timers alike filtered through bright, thoughtfully laid-out displays designed to encourage exploration at an easy, unhurried pace.

At the heart of the store — and impossible to miss — is SkullPanda, one of Pop Mart’s most beloved characters. Known for her expressive designs and artistic edge, the character anchors the SM Aura lineup, setting the tone for a space that celebrates creativity, personality and visual storytelling. Blind boxes sit alongside larger collectible formats, appealing just as much to gift hunters as to seasoned collectors who enjoy discovering new releases in person.

As an official store, the SM Aura location also becomes the first to carry Pop Mart’s newest releases, with selections refreshed regularly to keep repeat visits exciting. It’s a setup that reflects the brand’s growing role not just as a retailer, but as part of an everyday lifestyle — where toys, art and self-expression intersect.

The opening quickly turned into a society moment, too. Singer Jed Madella dropped by to check out the latest collectibles, while actress Nadine Samonte arrived in full mommy mode, sharing the experience with her children as they happily clutched their Pop Mart shopping bags. Also spotted browsing the displays was Inah de Belen, daughter of Janice de Belen, adding to the mix of familiar faces enjoying the brand’s playful world.

Behind the scenes, executives from both Pop Mart and SM Aura were on hand in full support of the opening. Leading the charge were SM Aura Senior AVP for Leasing Kai Fagara San Diego; Pop Mart Philippines Head of Marketing Mishen Samonte; Pop Mart Philippines Country Head Marilen Villamayor; and SM Aura AVP for Operations Steph Co — underscoring the collaborative effort behind the brand’s growing footprint in the country.

More than just a place to shop, Pop Mart stores have increasingly become social spaces — where fans pause for photos, compare finds and bond over the shared excitement of a reveal. The SM Aura branch fits seamlessly into BGC’s culture of discovery and leisure, offering something lighthearted and creative amid the area’s busy retail rhythm.

And if the crowds on opening day were any indication, Pop Mart’s momentum is far from slowing down. With another official store already teased north of Metro Manila, collectors and curious newcomers alike can expect even more surprises ahead—because with Pop Mart, the real fun always begins the moment the box is opened.
