SANDAKAN: Umno Sabah chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said that the party’s current focus is on preparing Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming elections, rather than on concerns over positions.
“For me, the issue of positions is not important. What matters is winning the election.” “Currently, we are stable, though some may claim otherwise,” he added.
“This is the time to formulate strategies and strengthen the party, rather than attempting to handle challenges alone,” he said the Aidilfitri Open House event for the Libaran parliamentary constituency at Aisyadelia Cottage, Batu 14, on Saturday.
Also present were Libaran MP and Umno Sabah Information Chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, Sungai Manila assemblyman Datuk Mokran Ingkat, Sukau assemblyman Datuk Jafry Ariffin, Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee and Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong.
Asked about potential cooperation with other parties for the upcoming elections, he said there have been no developments yet.
On flooding in Pangkalan Bukit Garam, Kinabatangan, Bung it has has been a recurring issue and evacuation orders had been issued to the residents.
“Previously, I even constructed a special housing area for flood victims to relocate. However, many are reluctant to move,” he said.
Regarding the Gum-Gum state seat, which is currently not held by BN, Suhaimi, who is Sabah Umno Information Chief, said BN remains committed to regaining the seat along with two other traditional seats in the Libaran namely Sungai Manila and Sungai Sibuga.
He added that the most important thing for BN in the Libaran region is to ensure victory in forming the next state government, whether as a solo contender or in coalition, with the candidates to be determined by the party leadership closer to the election.
