Kota Kinabalu: A seminar on Filipino Martial Art (FMA) stick fighting Pekiti Tirsia Kali (PTK) Katipunan way was held at the Damai Multi-purpose hall near here recently.

The one-day event organised by Rhinos Arnis Club (RAC) was conducted by PTK Malaysia Director Tuhon Tan Pak Khong from Kuala Lumpur.

RAC President and instructor Master Mohamed Fairuz said Tan, who is also the national head coach with more than 15 years of international experience shared his knowledge with the participants during the session.

“This first ever seminar to be held here and focused on pekiti tirsia kali has received positive response with the presence of many individuals including representatives from MMA clubs and the Martial Arts Associations as well as those from the uniform and safety control sectors.

“It is more about self-defence or combat, and it helped to open the participants’ eyes on the importance of learning and at least to know about this martial art, which is a national sport of the Philippines and is featured in the SEA games and at the World Championship,” he said.

He added that following the positive feedback from the participants, there is a plan to hold similar seminars in the future.

Meanwhile, RAC as the first club in the sport to be registered with the sports commissioner here and only the fourth in the country is now officially PTK Malaysia Sabah branch.

The inauguration ceremony officiated by Tan was held after the closing of the seminar.
