The federal executive of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has demanded the government to withdraw the proposal to establish an agriculture distribution company (discom), and opposed the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2025, or any provision allowing privatisation and fragmentation of the power sector. It has also protested the proposal to grant parallel licence to a private firm in Gurugram and Nuh.
VK Gupta, AIPEF media adviser, said at a meeting in Bengaluru on Friday, the federation opposed multiple distribution licensees in the same area and opposed provisions that facilitated privatisation, cherry-picking of consumers, weakening of public utilities and transfer of public assets to private interests. In another resolution, it opposed policy initiatives for the creation of agriculture discoms for faster issuance of connections and uninterrupted supply to farmers.
