PPIM warns public against widespread Telegram sex syndicates operating blackmail scams

THE Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) has issued a stern warning to the public against engaging with online prostitution services offered prolifically via the Telegram messaging application.

The alert follows a disturbing surge in fraud and extortion cases tied to illicit syndicates operating across digital platforms.

PPIM Chief Activist Datuk Nadzim Johan revealed that the association has been inundated with complaints from individuals who fell prey to the syndicates' deceptive tactics.

He explained that victims seeking sexual services online ended up incurring financial losses and facing criminal intimidation that threatened their personal safety and family privacy.

Nadzim noted that the profile of affected individuals spans diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ranging from highly educated professionals to manual labourers.

He disclosed that complaints received by PPIM involve university lecturers, marketing executives, civil servants, and factory operators, underscoring that the syndicates target anyone susceptible to temptation.

Elaborating on the modus operandi, Nadzim stated that group administrators share provocative photographs of women on Telegram channels to lure prospective clients.

Once contact is established, the syndicate demands an upfront deposit via online bank transfer.

After the initial payment is completed, fraudsters fabricate various pretexts—such as security insurance fees, transportation charges, or membership registration fees—to extort additional funds.

Nadzim warned that if a victim refuses to make further payments or attempts to cancel the arrangement, syndicate members immediately resort to threats and blackmail. - October 4, 2026
