MANILA, Philippines -- Veejay Pre took charge in second overtime to lift University of the Philippines past University of Santo Tomas, 103-101, in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

Pre scored seven of his game high 30 points in the second extra period including a split from the free throw line with 2.1 seconds remaining to give the Fighting Maroons a 2-point lead.

James Payosing then shut down a potential game-winner from the Growling Tigers with a steal in the tightly-contested ball game.

Pre, who became the first UP player to score 30 points in eight years, also logged 16 rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

Claiming their fourth straight win, the Fighting Maroons improved to 6-2 for the solo lead in the team standings, while the Tigers dropped to 4-4 for a share of fifth place with the De La Salle Green Archers.
