
Kota Kinabalu: The ethnic and cultural identity of the local community needs to be preserved and maintained by all quarters to ensure indigenous ethnicities remains known to the new generation.
Vice President of Sabah Bajau Samah Association, Datuk Japlin Akim said the rapid pursuit of current economic and technological development could not be used as an excuse for all parties to continue efforts to preserve the image of local tradition and culture.
“In addition to our vigorous efforts to develop the state, we cannot put aside our responsibilities and ignore the importance of our customs and culture.
“This is because culture is an important aspect of our lives that symbolises the identity of a nation, tribe and ethnicity which must be preserved and dignified for our benefit and future generations,” he said, when speaking at the Multi-Ethnic Arts and Culture Presentation ceremony organised by the Bajau Samah Association of the Kota Kinabalu City branch at Deasoka Gaya Street recently.
