Kota Kinabalu: Sabah will require a different development approach due to its unique natural attractions and emulating the model of advanced countries may backfire, said Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
Instead of skyscrapers turning Sabah’s tropical rainforest into a concrete jungle, he emphasised the importance of upholding its strength in having some of the most captivating nature destinations.
“People come to Sabah not to look at tall buildings. Though it is not wrong, there are impressive infrastructures here. But people come to Sabah for its unique natural attractions and diverse cultures.
“But if we do this (emulate advanced countries), Malaysia’s strengths, especially in Sabah, will be lost and we may not receive as many tourists as we do today.
