Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has confirmed the club are trying to sign Alvaro Fernandez from Manchester United.

The Championship club have proposed a season-long loan for the 19-year-old, who was named as Man Utd's U23 Player of the Year last season.

Fernandez was pictured in attendance at Preston's Deepdale as they welcomed Leicester City on Sunday.

Speaking after the defeat, Lowe said: "We've tracked Alvaro Fernandez for some time and he was here with his family today watching us play.

"Hopefully we've been good enough and he's been impressed enough for him to say yes. Until that we can't say much about it."
