Kota Kinabalu: State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya urged Sabahans to act as the Government’s “eyes and ears” in order to stop excessive price increases in the State.

He also encouraged the public to exercise their rights by lodging reports on excessive hikes in the prices.

He said this during a talk show “Kami Bah Ini”, hosted by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), at the KKMM Integrated Complex, here, Monday.

Shahelmey said this could prevent any unfair increase in the price of items.

“The public can file complaints directly to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said.

Shahelmey said one of the Government’s measures to lessen the burden and high cost of living is the Malaysian Family Sales programme.

“As of this month, every state constituency will host the programme, which had previously been held twice a month in every parliamentary constituency,” he added.

He said the programme provides people the choice of buying daily necessities at less expensive and competitive prices.

Shahelmey also expressed support for the formation of the special team, called the Jihad on Addressing Inflation, which was announced by the Prime Minister recently.
