Malaysia’s Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that the government will offer cash assistance to help Malaysians cope with the rising costs of goods.

This is because the government expects the prices of goods like chicken, eggs, and other food essentials to increase following the lack of subsidies in these areas from 1 July onwards.

B40 households will receive RM100 and individuals RM50 via the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia direct cash aid. The payout will start next Monday, 27 June.

Government continues to subsidize packet cooking oil

The Prime Minister also clarified on the subsidy for cooking oil – which remains so for cooking oil in packets, he said.

“The government is still subsidizing cooking oil in packets. We spent RM4 billion to subsidize cooking oil so far this year, and we may spend more if the base price of palm oil continues to increase,” he said

Subsidy for bottled cooking oil (1kg, 2kg, and 5kg) has been discontinued.
