Pusat Aduan Rakyat President, Datuk Chandrakumanan has expressed his concerns about the calls made by some political leaders for GE15 to be expedited.
“I am aware that the decision to dissolve Parliament ultimately is in the hands of the prime minister and most certainly, I respect that prerogative as it is bestowed to him by our Constitution.” explained Datuk Chandrakuman.
“However, the anchor reason for Malaysians should not be when the election is going to be, but whether dissolving the Parliament and having elections during this period of time would benefit the people of Malaysia.”
Datuk Chandrakuman emphasised the fact that Malaysia’s economy was hit hard by the pandemic in 2020, and suffered a 5.6% fall in real. According to him, like many other countries, Malaysia’s economy will undoubtedly be affected by the recent disturbances in the global economy and rising inflation which has not been helped by the Ukraine-Russia war.
“Due to the events above, today over half a million middle-income group (M40) households have slipped into the bottom 40 per cent (B40) category due to the current health and economic crises caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Malaysia's unemployment rate is at 3.7% as of July 2022. And let us not even get started with our Ringgit value today,” he elaborated further.
“In short, the rakyat are suffering. Therefore, they are more interested in knowing what plans the government has in store for them to help ease their burden rather than when the election date is.”
The PAR President also said that the people are more interested to know what government is doing to increase household income, how the government intends to create job opportunities for locals, what plans the government has for the SMEs, how the Government plans to improve the quality of of healthcare and education increase Education and how to encourage FDIs to boost our economy.
“I am sure these five questions are running in the mind of the people rather than when the election date is”, he sneered further.
“What I am trying to say is that the Government still has about 9 months before the Parliament has to be dissolved. So why not use this period to implement the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) which is a roadmap for the country to encourage economic recovery and to achieve a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable Malaysia. Why hurry for elections when the government can implement this RMK-12 to help the rakyat?”
“Isn’t implementation more important now? Definitely it is. Just ask the rakyat”
“So why seek to rush GE15, let it take place when it has to take place,” asked Datuk Chandrakuman.
