Prison officer killed in Beaufort crash

BEAUFORT: A prison officer was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a Perodua Axia making a U-turn along Jalan Beaufort-Papar, near the Lumat junction, Thursday.

District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said Mohamad Ikram Jamaludin died at the scene after sustaining head injuries, with preliminary information indicating that he was on his way to work when the accident occurred at about 6.50am.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the Beaufort District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) recently detained two men at Kampung Gana, Membakut.

A check found that one of the suspects was in possession of 0.63gm of suspected syabu, which was found in his sling bag, while no illicit items were found on the other suspect.

“Both suspects were taken to the BSJND office for further investigation and action under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
