FORMER Johor menteri besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal is on course for defeat in Bukit Kepong after Barisan Nasional (BN) surged into a commanding lead in the state seat, according to unofficial election results.
As of 7.32 pm, BN candidate Ahmad Syarie Yusof was leading with 2,744 votes, or 56.89%, well ahead of Pakatan Harapan’s Subramani Chami, who garnered 1,123 votes (23.28%).
Sahruddin, contesting under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner, trailed in third place with 956 votes, representing 19.82% of the ballots counted.
The result, if maintained until the final tally, would mark a significant setback for the former Johor MB, who served briefly as the state’s 17th menteri besar from 2019 to 2020 under the Pakatan Harapan administration. – July 11, 2026
