TAWAU: The Health Department and relevant agencies have been urged to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into public complaints of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea reported in the district in recent days.
Kalabakan MP Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy (pic) said the investigation should cover water supply, food premises and environmental factors to identify the actual cause and safeguard public health.
“I take seriously the increasing public complaints regarding stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea in Tawau recently,” he said in a statement on Monday, urging the Health Department and relevant agencies to immediately conduct investigations and inspections.
He said the findings should be communicated to the public promptly so that concerns could be addressed and appropriate preventive measures taken, adding that public health and safety must be given priority.
Meanwhile, various members of the public have shared on social media claims that they experienced the symptoms since Sunday, with some saying they had kept their children home from school and advising others not to drink or cook with tap water, including water from branded filters, but to use bottled mineral water instead; the Tawau Water Department, when contacted, advised users to lodge reports with the Health Ministry for investigation.
