Programme strengthens community-security forces ties

SANDAKAN: The organisation of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Programme by the Joint Task Force Headquarters 2 (ATB2) in Sandakan has further strengthened relations between the community and the nation’s security forces.

Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) President Datuk Walter Kenson said that in addition to community-based activities, the Cimic programme also featured exhibitions that provided the public with an opportunity to better understand the functions and roles of national security personnel in safeguarding the country’s peace and security.

“We have seen a very positive response from the people of Sandakan, and I would like to express my appreciation to the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) for organising this programme here,” he said.

He added that the programme also helps promote Sandakan as an attractive destination for visitors while demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring that security remains a key priority.

Walter said this during a press conference after officiating the Cimic Programme organised by Joint Task Force Headquarters 2 at the Harbour Mall grounds here on Saturday.

Also present were Joint Task Force 2 Commander Brigadier General Megat Maz Ardi Nohuddin, as well as representatives from various security forces and government agencies.

The programme featured exhibition booths by security agencies, government departments, and private sector organisations. Activities included a blood donation campaign, the presentation of food assistance baskets to military veterans in Sandakan, and an aerial flypast by a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Hawk aircraft.

In a related development, Walter said that the Municipal Council welcomes the organisation of similar programmes by any security agency and will continue to provide its full support.

The council is also planning to upgrade the Municipal Field (Padang Bandaran) into a larger dedicated venue for hosting various events in the future.

Meanwhile, Megat said that Cimic serves as a platform for cooperation between the military, other security agencies, and the community, noting that members of the public serve as the eyes and ears of the nation’s security forces.

He expressed hope that this close collaboration would continue in order to ensure the nation’s security and well-being remain protected at all times.
