Crowds of shoppers and a small group of protesters gathered on Wednesday for the opening of Shein’s first permanent store in Paris, located inside the BHV department store.

Demonstrators briefly disrupted the ceremony before being removed by security. France’s Finance Ministry later announced the suspension of access to Shein’s online platform pending review over listings of banned products.

Despite criticism over its practices, many customers queued to see items in person, while BHV’s owners hope the partnership will boost business.
