SHAH ALAM – Pas needs to provide evidence through legal channels if DAP and Pakatan Harapan (PH) truly have an agenda to eliminate the Malays and Islam or threaten the position of Islam as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
Amanah Wanita chief Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said such allegations were not a trivial matter as they involved issues of dignity, religion, race and loyalty to the country.
She said if there was evidence that DAP and PH had threatened the position of Islam or the country’s foundations, it should be brought before the courts and national institutions instead of merely being used in ceramahs, political statements or propaganda designed to inflame public emotions.
“True struggle is not afraid of the court and the truth. If there is evidence, bring it to the national institutions. Do not allow serious allegations to become merely material to inflame public emotions.
“Do not just repeat the rhetoric of these allegations in ceramahs, lectures, media statements or political writings,” she said in a statement on her Facebook page on Saturday.
Aiman Athirah, who is also Sepang Member of Parliament, said Malaysia has the Federal Constitution, judicial system, national security laws and enforcement institutions that provide channels for action to be taken in the event of any breach of the law.
She also questioned why Pas had not taken action when it had the opportunity to exercise power if DAP was truly a threat to the Malays and Islam, as it had often claimed.
“Pas had previously been part of state and Federal governments and had held positions in the country’s highest administration.
“If DAP and PH are truly a threat, why, when Pas had the opportunity to exercise power, did it not take legal action to ban DAP or provide evidence that DAP had violated the Constitution?” she questioned.
Meanwhile, she reminded that Islam should not be used as a tool to sow hostility, stressing that struggles in the name of religion should instead be based on knowledge, justice and morality.
She said Muslims should also avoid ghuluw, or extremism, and a takfiri culture that readily condemned or labelled others as enemies of the religion without a basis of knowledge, evidence and a fair process.
“Islam does not teach us to build strength through slander and suspicion. Islam teaches Muslims to practise tabayyun, which means investigating before passing judgement,” she said.
Aiman Athirah said defending the Malays and Islam did not require slander or hatred towards other races.
“Malays will not become stronger by hating other races. Islam will not be honoured by insulting other people.
“The strength of Islam is not built by constantly seeking changing enemies, but by upholding justice, knowledge, compassion and morality,” she said.
She again challenged Pas and its top leadership to prove all the allegations through legal channels.
“If all the allegations made are true, prove them in a braver manner in court. Bring them to court. Bring them to national institutions. Bring the evidence with them,” she said.
