Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan President cum Senallang Assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal urged the Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship to provide full details on the billions of ringgit in investments announced for Sabah.

“It has been three years but the situation on the ground is only 300 workers,” Shafie said in a question to its Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Shafie also asked whether a cost-benefit analysis had been performed before deciding on any project in order to analyse the project’s viability and establish whether the investment would provide a lucrative return or not.

“Cost analysis should be taken into account on various aspects including job opportunities and the revenue that the State Government will receive,” he said.

“What we will get is not just in terms of job opportunities. We want Sabah to become an industrial region,” he said.

He expressed disappointment to learn that the Chinese investor, SBH Kibing Solar New Materials (M) Sdn Bhd, only processes silica raw material and does not manufacture solar panels.

“It is like taking logs out and turning them into plywood before shipping the plywood to Japan and China who in turn sells it back to us in the form of furniture.

“We sell plywood to Japan and China for RM100, and they sell furniture to us for RM1,000,” he said.
