PSA: Construction activities reach 13.6K in April

THE number of construction activities in the country reached 13,677 in April, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

Preliminary data released Friday showed that the construction activities covered by approved building permits involved a total floor area of 2.76 million square meters and had a total value of P47.42 billion.

"This excludes alteration and repair, other non-residential such as facade, helipad, niche, water tank, etc., and other constructions, which include demolition, street furniture, landscaping, and signboards, since there is no reported floor area for these types of constructions," the PSA said.

Residential buildings accounted for the largest share of construction activities at 8,630, or 63.1 percent of the total recorded in April.

Most of the residential constructions were single-type houses.

Meanwhile, non-residential constructions totaled 2,973, with commercial buildings comprising the majority of these projects.

Additions, which refer to new construction that increases the height or area of an existing building, accounted for 3.7 percent of total construction activities. Alteration and repair works contributed 7.7 percent, while other constructions comprised 3.8 percent.

The PSA said the average construction cost in April stood at PHP15,497.47 per square meter, 48.5 percent higher than the P10,437.43 per square meter recorded in April 2025.

Among construction types, non-residential projects posted the highest average cost at P16,673.81 per square meter, followed by residential constructions at P14,527.58 per square meter and additions at P12,550.38 per square meter.
