PSC to give all-out support to Eala in Asian Games bid

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will give its all-out support to Alex Eala in her gold medal bid at the Asian Games tennis play slated from September 27 to October 3.

PSC chairman Patrick "Pato" Gregorio said this in a statement on Tuesday following Senator Erwin Tulfo's call to the government to support Eala, who faces a potential Women's Tennis Association (WTA) $10,000 penalty (P626,000) for skipping the mandatory 1000 China Open for the Asiad.

The Asian Games tennis play runs smack into the China Open's September 30 to October 11 schedule, leaving Eala with no choice but to skip one of the two tournaments.

"The PSC is in close coordination and communication with POC President Bambol Tolentino and PHILTA Secretary General Mayor John Rey Tiangco. They have informed me that the official request has already been submitted to the WTA," said Gregorio..

"Rest assured of the PSC’s all-out support. We will continue to assist Alex, PHILTA, and the POC in every way we can."
