PSG take on Inter Milan tonight in the Champions League final as Luis Enrique bids to finally deliver the European crown to Paris.
The French giants’ only European trophy came when they won the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup, and the Champions League has been the stated goal ever since the Qatari buyout in 2011. They came close in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich in the final, and a vibrant young side led by their passionate Spanish manager are determined to go one step further here in Munich.
Standing in PSG’s way are Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan side who dramatically knocked out Barcelona in the semi-finals. Inter, who lifted the European Cup in 1964, 1965 and 2010, also have unfinished business in this competition after defeat by Manchester City in the final two years ago.

Are the 'best team' in the Champions League... not in the final?

Mikel Arteta will certainly believe so!
Despite crashing out to finallists PSG in the previous round, the Arsenal boss is convinced that his side was a level above the competition.
“I don't think there's been a better team [than Arsenal] in the competition from what I have seen, but we are out,” Arteta told TNT Sports after the semi-final defeat in Paris.
He later reiterated his claim, saying: “100 percent. Watching it back, watching the stats. It's very clear but its not about the winning probability, it's about making it count.”
Was this pride, arrogance or just plain delusion? Miguel Delaney had his say:

Not everyone in Paris will be watching tonight’s final...
Novak Djokovic had his request to watch the Champions League final denied after being scheduled to play at Roland Garros on Saturday night.
A host of top players, including Paris Saint-Germain fan Arthur Fils, had pleaded with organisers to ensure their French Open third-round matches did not clash with the big game against Inter Milan in Munich.
But the Djokovic received bad news on Friday afternoon as his clash with Austrian Filip Misolic will begin at 8.15pm local time, 45 minutes before the final kicks off.

Luis Enrique has called on his Paris St Germain players to seize their chance to "write themselves into the club's history" by winning the Champions League.
Enrique told the club’s official website: “We all want to make history and to win Paris St Germain’s first-ever Champions League.
“Winning a trophy for the first time is always the hardest, but that’s what motivates me. There are only two teams and one game left, and I think that we can be proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we need to finish the job because our aim is to go down in history.
“Our team deserves to experience this final. I have no doubts about the fact that Paris St Germain’s fans and the club itself deserve to win this trophy.
“I don’t know if it’ll happen on May 31, a year later or two, three or four years later, but I hope that we’ll be the first ones to write that history because that’s what’s motivated us since we first set foot in Paris.”

Why Arsenal should have beaten PSG (but didn’t)

Arsenal could have found themselves in a European final this evening if they cleared just one more hurdle of beating PSG. They didn’t.
Adam Clery delves into why and how Mikel Arteta’s should have overcame the Parisian giants:
How much does winning the Champions League earn you?

“Winning the Champions League probably gets you upwards of £100m,” football finance expert Rob Wilson told Plejmo. “That obviously is made up of the prize money that you've generated thus far, and it also gets you around £15m for the final itself and a share of the performance bonuses related to it.
“There's also money from the UEFA market pool that is probably another £15million to £20million, but that varies due to domestic broadcast deals.
“We know that France and Italy are much smaller in terms of their domestic broadcast deal than the Premier League. Matchday gate receipts about 10million, sponsorship activation around about £20million.”

Born in the eighties: Inter Milan’s veterans have final chance to write Champions League history

Without cancer, Francesco Acerbi once said, he would have retired years ago. Perhaps when he was 28, which would have meant his career ended in 2016. Instead, here he is in 2025, preparing for his second Champions League final, maybe forever going to be the last footballer born in the 1980s to play in one.
Or one of the last, anyway, given that his Inter Milan teammates Yann Sommer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marko Arnautovic were also born when the Berlin Wall was still intact and Matteo Darmian before the 1990s arrived.
Richard Jolly delves into the Inter mainstays who could be the last of a generation to play at this level:

Gianluigi Donnarumma has proved that his goalkeeping kind are still in fashion

For a man out of time, it might again be the right time. Gianluigi Donnarumma has felt football’s youngest anachronism, the type of player who had fallen out of fashion.
Now he stands 90 minutes – or, given, his skill set, perhaps 120 and a penalty shootout – from a second achievement that would be out of keeping with the modern footballing world.
Miguel Delaney reflects on Donnarumma’s stunning European campaign:

How Inter Milan’s ‘warrior spirit’ reignited a Champions League dream

Many of the Internazionale players still feel it. It is not the pride at returning to a Champions League, even after the spirit of that semi-final against Barcelona. It is really the pain from their last appearance at this stage in 2023. The Inter Milan players still remember the dejection on that Istanbul pitch.
Given that Manchester City won a treble that season, their 1-0 win has been cast as an inevitability, a translation of infinitely superior state resources into triumph. Inter have never felt that way. They thought they should have won, and were only a misfiring Romelu Lukaku away from glory.
Pride consequently isn’t enough here, as they face another state-owned club. Inter are determined to set it right, even after falling short to Napoli in a gripping Serie A title race last weekend.
There’s a fire within the squad that has driven them through this Champions League campaign. Who really thought they would get past Bayern Munich and Barcelona? Who now truly thinks they’ll beat this Paris Saint-Germain?

Luis Enrique hopes Paris Saint-Germain’s difficult journey to the Champions League final will help them make history on Saturday.
“What I tried to transmit to the players is that we have been on a very difficult journey,” Enrique told said.
“We have had to play in top-level games since the start of the Champions League. The fact that it was hard at the start could be an advantage for us now because we are used to playing in these games.”

Luis Enrique has a doubt over Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, though the Georgian has returned to training after missing out on the Coup de France, despite initially being selected to start.
The major tactical doubt for Enrique could involve Desire Doué or Bradley Barcola lining up on the right. Presnel Kimpembe is out with an Achilles tendon issue.
Inter have welcomed back Lautaro Martinez, Davide Frattesi, Yann Bisseck and Benjamin Pavard to full training, though they all remain names to watch in the final hours before kick-off.

Inter Milan’s kit choice explained ahead of Champions League final

Inter Milan are set to don their third kit, a golden yellow strip, for Saturday's Champions League final against Paris St Germain in Munich.
The final on Saturday evening, which kicks off at 8pm GMT, marks the first official encounter between the two sides, and the first time Inter have used their third kit in a Champions League final.
PSG, designated as the home team, will wear their traditional navy blue shirts and shorts with a white and red stripe.
As a result, this kit clash prevents Inter from playing in their classic black and blue.
Instead of their second strip—white shirts with blue details—the Italian side opted for the golden yellow shirt with black details and black shorts.

PSG could become only the second French champions, after Marseille. The closest they came was the 2020 final lost to Bayern after a tournament restructured in the pandemic.
Inter's last success in 2010 ended their long wait since wins in 1964 and '65. But they lost on their last appearance in the final, to Manchester City in 2023. This will be their seventh final altogether. They have won three and lost three so far
This will be the fifth European Cup final in Munich. Each of the previous four produced a first-time winner: Nottingham Forest in 1979, Marseille in 1993, Borussia Dortmund in 1997, and Chelsea in 2012.

Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have all left PSG but that doesn't mean there aren't players to watch. Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has starred for the team since joining from Napoli in January. Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele are chipping in the goals that Mbappe's no longer scoring, and the team has one of the world's best goalkeepers in Gianluigi Donnarumma, formerly of AC Milan.
Inter count on Argentina star Lautaro Martinez to lead the team with his captaincy and goals.

Inzaghi was asked what his team needs more than anything else in order to defeat Luis Enrique's PSG, a side which has won every trophy they have competed for so far this season.
"Aggressiveness, clarity, there could be many more because to play a match like this, to win, to win such an important match, it will take everything," Inzaghi said.
"It will take everything, along with all the details that we are trying to take care of in the best possible way, knowing that in front of us we have a great team that has deserved the final, like Inter, which has incredible strength and a great coach."

Inzaghi believes his squad is experienced and successful enough to be able to put those plans in place, and put behind them the disappointment of losing their Serie A title to Napoli.
"The psychological side is important, we worked in the best way, leaving aside the disappointment," Inzaghi said.
"We know how certain matches are prepared, we have world champions, we have European champions.
"We have also gained experience on how to reach the Champions League final, which is a very important match, just like a World Cup final, a European Championship final."

Inter Milan are determined to avenge their 2023 Champions League final loss, though manager Simone Inzaghi warned on Friday against letting determination become obsession against Paris St Germain in this year's final.
While Inter's domestic campaign ended trophyless, in Europe, Inzaghi and his players are desperate to banish the ghosts of Istanbul and their defeat to Manchester City, but they will not let their resolve turn into fixation ahead of tonight’s showdown in Munich.
"I have seen determination and not the obsession that shouldn't be there," Inzaghi told reporters.
"Instead, there should be the right concentration and determination, and this is what the guys have shown me in these days.
"I asked during the week for concentration and determination, but not obsession, we must be free, free of mind in preparing in the best possible way."
