
Panjab University has once again seen a dip in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World Rankings, after improving five years of stagnation last year.
In the 2027 QS World Rankings, the university has been placed in the 1,001-1,200 band globally.
Last year, the university improved its standing to feature in the 901-950 bracket.
Since 2021, the varsity had remained in the 1,001-1,200 range, even slipping into the 1,201-1,400 bracket once.
The university registered a significant improvement in sustainability, moving up 121 places globally from 684 in the previous edition to 563.
The sustainability indicator evaluates the social and environmental impact of universities as centres of education and research.
The institution retained its global position of 701+ in both academic reputation and employer reputation, reflecting sustained recognition among academics and employers worldwide.
It also maintained its standing in faculty-student ratio, international research network and international students’ indicators.
Among Indian institutions featured in the rankings, the university is ranked 11th in employment outcomes, 16th in sustainability, 29th in citations per faculty, 32nd in employer reputation and 35th in academic reputation.
The assessment awarded 62.6 in sustainability, 40.4 in employment outcomes, 34.3 in citations per faculty and 28.3 in international research network.
“The latest rankings reflect Panjab University’s continued strength across multiple performance indicators. The university’s performance is supported by a robust research ecosystem. During the assessment period, Panjab University recorded more than 8,500 research publications and nearly 1.9 lakh citations,” said Vice-Chancellor Renu Vig.
Private varsities excel
Meanwhile, Chandigarh University, Ghauran, improved its ranking. The university secured 526th rank with an overall score of 31.1. Chitkara University too has been placed in the 1,001-1,200 bracket from 1,201-1,400 earlier.
The Chandigarh University gained the All-India rank of 13 among all universities in the country as compared to 16th rank in last year’s rankings
Chitkara University was ranked 38 among the Indian universities.
