THE Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) previously seconded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been relieved of all prosecutorial duties and temporarily reassigned to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), pending the outcome of a police investigation into alleged drug possession.
Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, speaking in Kota Bharu today said the DPP would remain off duty while authorities complete their probe.
“We must first await the findings of the investigation regarding allegations of drug possession and use. In the meantime, the DPP has been relocated to the AGC,” he said after attending the conferment of state honours held in conjunction with the 56th birthday of the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, at Istana Balai Besar.
According to earlier reports, the officer had recently begun his duties with the MACC when he was arrested at his residence, where police allegedly discovered controlled substances suspected to be narcotics.
Mohd Dusuki added that further action would follow once investigations are complete, reaffirming the government’s commitment to uphold the integrity of the legal and prosecutorial system.
AG willing to the family of Wan Ahmad Faris
In a separate development, the Attorney General confirmed he is prepared to meet with the family of Wan Ahmad Faris Wan Abdul Rahman, a tahfiz student whose death in 2013 was later determined by the Coroner’s Court to be a homicide.
“We acknowledge the family’s request, which was made through their legal counsel, and I am ready to meet with them soon. A suitable date will be arranged,” he said. “During the meeting, I will brief the family on developments based on updates provided by the Royal Malaysia Police.”
The case of Wan Ahmad Faris, then a 16-year-old student at Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman in Kok Lanas, drew renewed attention after his family’s legal team formally requested an update on the reopened investigation.
The teenager was found hanging in a dormitory toilet in December 2013. Initial forensic reports classified the incident as a sudden death with no criminal elements. However, in 2016, the Coroner’s Court concluded that Wan Ahmad Faris had been murdered by an unidentified individual.
