Kota Kinabalu: The public has been urged to refrain from speculation, sensationalism, and unfounded accusations following the conclusion of the 96-day inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Counsel Joan Goh, who represented one of the children involved in the proceedings, stressed that the welfare, rights, and futures of the minors caught under intense scrutiny must be protected, noting that justice must be guided strictly by evidence and the rule of law rather than public sentiment.
She said the pursuit of justice for Zara must never come at the expense of others, calling on all parties to respect the judicial process and allow the affected children to move forward with their lives.
Speaking on behalf of lead counsel Datuk Ram Singh, counsel Prem Elmer Ganasan said the inquest must fairly reflect all evidence adduced, noting that two forensic pathologists testified the fall was not accidental and involved no push or deliberate third-party action.
Ganasan added that their legal team supports the investigating officer’s Sudden Death Report, highlighting that a psychological autopsy report by forensic psychiatrist Dr Chua Sze Hung concluded the manner of death was most consistent with suicide as the court awaits the final verdict.
