Panic gripped residents of villages surrounding the Bhanupli area in Ropar today after a portion of the Anandpur Sahib Hydel Canal overflowed near the Bhanupli siphon.
Locals first noticed water spilling from the canal in the siphon area and alerted the authorities about the situation. Soon after receiving information, officials from the civil wing of PSPCL rushed to the site to assess the situation and initiate remedial measures.
Executive Engineer of PSPCL’s civil wing, Avtar Inder, said that it was for the first time that 10,500 cusec water was released in the canal. The water got struck under the siphon on the canal near Bhanupli village due to debris in the canal. Now, the situation in the canal has been controlled and there was no threat to the canal.
