The Punjab School Education Department has announced a state-wide celebration, “Sikhya da Maha Jashan” (Education Mahotsav), featuring a Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) and Parents’ Workshop across all government schools on May 30.
The event will be held in all primary, middle, high and senior secondary schools across the state. Regular classes will remain suspended for the day as students attend the programme along with their parents.
According to a letter issued by the department to all District Education Officers on Thursday, the event is being organised to celebrate Punjab’s top rankings in national education metrics. The state secured first place in the Union Ministry of Education’s Performance Grading Index (PGI 2) for 2024-25 and achieved the ‘Prachešta Grade-1’ ranking in NITI Aayog’s School Education Quality Report 2026.
To acknowledge the efforts behind these achievements, local MLAs and dignitaries will present appreciation certificates to school staff. Outstanding students will also be felicitated, including those securing the top three positions in board examinations, scoring full marks in any subject or clearing competitive exams such as JEE and CLAT.
In addition, upper-primary students beginning internships or progressing in the English Edge Programme will receive motivational certificates.
Interactive workshops for parents
Moving away from traditional lecture-style meetings, schools have been directed to conduct interactive one-hour workshops for parents in batches of 30 to 40 participants. The sessions will focus on maintaining learning routines during summer vacations, creating healthy study environments at home and collecting parental feedback through suggestion boxes.
To ensure maximum participation, schools have been instructed to spread awareness through WhatsApp messages, morning assemblies, student-made invitation cards and announcements at local religious places.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will conduct a live YouTube orientation for school heads and administrative staff on Thursday at 11 am to streamline preparations for the event.
Senior education officials will personally inspect three to four schools on the day of the programme. School heads have also been directed to upload a formal report through a departmental Google Form by noon, while the head office will make random phone calls to parents to collect direct feedback.
