
Day One of the INSET (In-Service Education and Training) Programme was conducted at Shivalik Public School, Phase 6, Mohali, focusing on ‘Active Learning and Innovative Teaching Strategies’ for educators across all Shivalik Schools. The programme was attended by the Principals of all five branches of Shivalik Public Schools, including Dr Gurkiranjeet Nalwa, Principal, Sector 41, Chandigarh; Dr Anupkiran Kaur, Principal, Phase 6, Mohali; Bhupinder Kaur Bhangra, Principal, Patiala; Poonam Rani, Principal, Sector 78, Mohali; and Gurvinder Kaur, Principal, Nawanshahr, along with Dr Jyoti Soni, Principal, Shivalik Institute of Education and Research (BEd College), and faculty members. The programme commenced with a meaningful morning assembly presented on the theme “Candle and Flame – Spreading Light”, symbolising the role of teachers in enlightening young minds. An insightful session on ‘Active Learning’ was conducted by Dr Gurkiranjeet Nalwa, who elaborated on its importance, evolution in classroom teaching, and the changing role of educators in fostering student-centred learning environments. The learning experience was further enriched by Dr Teena Chopra, Vice-Principal, Shivalik Public School, Mohali, who shared effective and engaging strategies for active learning, offering practical ways to make classrooms more interactive and participative. Further adding depth to the programme, Sangeeta, Vice-Principal of the Patiala branch, highlighted the significance of 21st-century skills in shaping future-ready learners equipped with critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Concluding the insightful sessions, Dr Anupkiran Kaur introduced the ALAP (Active Learning Activity Plan), sharing practical strategies to effectively integrate active learning into classrooms.
