A miscreant fired five shots outside jeweller Antarpreet Singh’s house in Choti Baradari of Jalandhar on Saturday night.
Antarpreet had been targeted for the third time in the past four years. The residence of the jeweller is just at a stone’s throw from cricketer and MP Harbhajan Singh’s house.
Antarpreet, who runs Kanda Jewellers at Jalandhar Cantonment, got a similar case registered at the Jalandhar Cantt police station in 2022. His 42-year-old wife died due to a cardiac arrest following the 2022 extortion bid, the family alleged. A bike-borne assailant can be seen stopping outside the house and firing five rounds, damaging the gate and a pillar, in a grainy CCTV footage.
An FIR has been registered at the police station number 7 in Jalandhar under Sections 307 of the BNS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act against an unidentified person. Antarpreet said, “Five shots were fired outside our house last night and we received threat calls on my son and father’s phone. We had also received threat calls in 2022. I lost my wife as the incident disturbed her.” Jalandhar Model Town ACP Manmohan Singh said, “A case has been registered and the incident is being probed. Though shots were fired last night, there’s no record of threat calls again this time.”
