Shots were fired outside a house in the posh Choti Baradari locality of Jalandhar. The residence that was targeted was that of a jeweller.
The incident is another one in a line of recent crimes, where assailants or extortioners spread scare after firing outside a target’s residence or establishments.
As per preliminary reports, a car with the assailant stopped outside the house of Gurdial Singh late on Saturday night.
Multiple shots were fired outside the residence after which the attacker fled from the scene.
Police said it was being investigated whether the incident was the handiwork of one assailant or more.
The police station number 7 has started a detailed probe against unidentified persons, including exploring CCTV footage in the area. They also stated that an FIR was being registered against unidentified persons.
Officials are looking into whether the act was a case of vendetta or extortion.
DCP Manpreet Singh said, “The incident came to light at about 11.30 pm last night that shots had been fired outside Gurdial Singh’s house. A police team immediately reached the spot and started an investigation."
